Biking Lehigh Valley Gorge!
Lehigh Valley Gorge State Park has much and MORE for the adventurous outdoor enthusiast! From biking miles of rail-trails to whitewater rafting, this Pennsylvania park is an oasis for activities. At only 2 hours from NYC and 90 minutes from Philadelphia, this natural wonderland is PERFECT for a weekend jaunt!
We took on the 25-mile journey through this GORGE-us park by hopping on the 11:00am Pocono Biking shuttle from Jim Thorpe up to White Haven for $20 (per person). While that may seem a bit pricey for a simple bus ride, if you have a hankering to see as much of the gorge as possible within a certain timeframe, it will certainly suit your needs.
You can always nix the shuttle altogether by choosing an out-and-back journey, biking the rail-trail as far as you please! But if you are looking for a lengthier and more diverse route, go with the shuttle (the longest option being a 36 mile trip).
Another way to explore this gorge is by rafting and kayaking the Lehigh River. Overhearing the hootin' and hollerin' of the crowds below made me want to be in the same boat! That will just have to wait until next time...
Overall, this flat, easy trail is perfect for anyone and a MUST when traveling to this serene park!
